Appeals court says Mark Meadows can’t move Georgia election case charges to federal court

By KATE BRUMBACK (Associated Press)ATLANTA (AP) — A federal appeals court on Monday ruled that former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows cannot move charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia to federal court.Meadows was indicted in August along with former President Donald Trump and 17 others on charges that they illegally conspired to keep the Republican incumbent in power despite him losing the election to Democrat Joe Biden.A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Meadows’ request, affirming a lower court ruling from September. The ruling is a win for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who brought the case and is seeking to try the remaining defendants in a single trial.Meadows’ attorneys had argued that he should be allowed to move the case to federal court because his actions outlined in the indictment were directly related to his duties as a federal official. Wander Franco earns $700,000 bonus from MLB pool despite ongoing investigation

NEW YORK (AP) — Wander Franco will receive a bonus from Major League Baseball of more than $700,000 despite being placed on administrative leave in August while under investigation for an alleged relationship with a minor. Franco will get $706,761 as part of MLB’s pre-arbitration bonus pool, a fund agreed to by the league and players’ association as part of their 2022 labor contract. The bonus pool was created to reward young players, most who earn at or just above the minimum major league salary based on how long they’ve been in the big leagues.The 22-year-old Franco was having an All-Star season before being sidelined in August, when authorities in the Dominican Republic began investigating claims that Franco had been in a relationship with a minor. Child, female hospitalized after being struck by vehicle in Forest Hill

Toronto paramedics have taken a female and a child to hospital with non life-threatening injuries after they were struck by vehicle in North York on Monday afternoon.Emergency crews were called to Newgate Road and Ridelle Avenue, near Allen Road and Eglinton Avenue West, at around 3:28 p.m. for reports of two pedestrians struck.The exact ages of the two victims were not released.Police say the vehicle remained on scene.There’s no word on any potential charges at this point.More to come
