Family, friends gather to observe World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

Families and communities across the country, including locally in Southern California, gathered Sunday to honor those killed on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.  Held annually on the third Sunday in November, the event shines a light not just on the victims, but on the families and friends devastated by the loss of their loved ones. It’s also a time for safety advocates to speak out and call for changes they believe will save lives.  The grieving family of 24-year-old Taylor Jackson who lost her life in a crash in Los Angeles, came out to Huntington Beach, the young woman’s favorite place, to observe the day.  “I want justice for my baby. She didn’t deserve a brutal ending,” Mia Cota, the 24-year-old's mother, told KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw. “You have no idea how many lives you have destroyed, you have altered, you have ruined in taking my baby.” Down the street from where Jackson was killed, 66-year-old Bibiana Retana Sosa was hit and killed in the cro...

Cruise co-founder, CEO Kyle Vogt resigns

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of San Francisco-based autonomous vehicle company Cruise has resigned. Kyle Vogt, who is also Cruise's co-founder, announced his resignation Sunday evening on X. The announcement comes nearly one month after Cruise announced it will pull all of its driverless cars off the streets nationwide. The move was to "take steps to rebuild public trust" after Cruise's autonomous vehicles have caused problems in San Francisco streets, including traffic jams. (AP) — Buffalo Bills safety Taylor Rapp didn’t require a trip to the hospital and was sent home to rest with a neck injury after he was driven away by ambulance late in the first half against the New York Jets on Sunday, coach Sean McDermott said.“I’m just praying for those guys,” McDermott said in reference to Rapp and defensive backs Dane Jackson and Taron Johnson, both of whom sustained concussions in Buffalo’s 32-6 victory.Rapp suffered what appeared to be the most serious injury when he and Johnson both struck running back Breece Hall in the open field. CHICAGO (AP) — Federal safety officials investigating a Chicago commuter train crash that injured nearly 40 people when it slammed into snow-removal equipment are focusing on a “design problem” with its braking system.National Transportation Safety Board Chairperson Jennifer Homendy said the Chicago Transit Authority train was traveling at 26.9 mph (43.3 kpm) on Thursday when it struck the snow-removal equipment, which was on the tracks conducting training for the winter season. She said that based on preliminary information she believes that equipment, with six CTA workers onboard, was stopped when the train crashed into it.Homendy said NTSB’s initial calculations based on the train’s speed and other factors such as the number of passengers on board indicate it was designed to stop within 1,780 feet (542.5 meters) to avoid something its path.
